Writing Contests
This was my entry for Vivian Kirkfield’s 50 Precious Words contest in March of 2019. There were over 300 entries and this short story earned an Honorable mention.

Farming
(43 words)
Tractors plowing.
Plant the seeds.
Ask for rain.
Oh please, oh please!
Sun is shining.
Seedlings sprawl.
Crops are growing
Green and tall.
Air is cooler,
Watch the field.
Combines harvest.
Highest yield.
Rest in winter.
Tinkering.
Back to farming
In the Spring.

This was an entry for the Spring Fling writing contest. I received 9th place for the story below.

Forest Fairies

I walk through forests, freshly green, searching for a place unseen.
I wander through the nightfall fog,
stumbling upon a rotted log.
I crawl straight through the tree trunk shell,
to find a village, small and swell.
Tiny houses made of boots,
Nestled in between tree roots.
Eyeglass windows, four inch doors,
Tiny brooms to sweep the floors,
Mushroom stools, pebble paths,
Turtle shells as bubble baths,
Hammocks made of spider silk,
Acorn cupules filled with milk,
Tables built with knobby sticks,
Tulip chairs - a set of six,
Lanterns lit with fireflies.
Who could live here at this size?
Pixies? Elves? Fairies? Gnomes?
This place is surely someone's home. Thunder rolls. A storm is near.
I hustle home while it's still clear.
I turn back quick. I'm sure I see
a fairy looking back at me.
I rub my eyes - she fades away.
I'll wander back another day.
